Alum Mines StudyCoastal Village Study

Compare a local coastal village with home. Themes of fishing, settlement studies, building and design can all be incorporated. Take along the sketchbooks or the cameras.

Alum Mines Study

Come and explore the historical alum mines. How did it change the landscape, the development of transport, all combined in the first chemical industry in the country.

Whitby Town Trail

Take an historical tour of Whitby, combining a look at the Abbey, fishing fleet and Captain Cook and that's not even mentioning Dracula!!

A full day of following the old railway between Grosmont and Goathland. Become History detectives and study the evidence of the Victorians, mining, steam and rail travel. Combined with a study of river and valley features, woodland and moorland make this a full day out.

Moorland Walk

The North York Moors National Park, is an excellent venue to explore plant/animal life, man's impact on the environment.

Tom Leonard Mining Museum

Come on a guided tour of the ironstone mines. This can be combined with a half day on the seashore to look at the geology of the cliffs, especially Port Mulgrave, a site of original ironstone mine.

Land Use SurveyMoorland Studies

Use the natural environment of the North York Moors Nation Park. Studying the maintenance of an artificial environment, heather studies, land use and the grouse.

Land Use Survey

Study the beautiful Glaisdale Valley. Investigating soil pH, vegetation changes, slope aspect and angle and land use patterns.
