The cost of transport for educational visits, in particular for small numbers of students can be a barrier to finding the ideal learning locations for students. For these visits, or where public transport is not available then staff-driven minibuses may be a solution.
Depending on the licences held by staff, a range of options for self-drive vehicles are available, but it is prudent for schools to ensure that staff are suitably trained for driving students if required.
For many employers it is a requirement for staff who are driving minibuses to attend minibus driver training, in addition to holding the relevant driving licence entitlement. The Community Transport Association MiDAS certificate is a nationally recognised qualification recognised by many Local Authorities and major insurance companies.
To enable schools to best support the learning of their pupils when away from the traditional classroom, North Yorkshire Outdoor Education offer two options for MiDAS training.
MiDAS Standard (open course) is a two part training course covering minibus law and driving best practice followed by a driving assessment. Open courses are held at either East Barnby (coastal) or Bewerley Park (inland) MiDAS Minibus Driver Training – North Yorkshire Outdoor Education
For schools who have their own vehicle available MiDAS Standard (bespoke) is the most effective option, with the training being deliver on your site and specific to your vehicles. MiDAS Minibus Driver Training – North Yorkshire Outdoor Education
