If you’re looking for fun and adventure in the great outdoors, our action-packed activities are available to book now for the school holidays. From Adventure Club and skills courses to Family Activity Days, there’s something for everyone!

We’re also running our popular two-day RYA sailing course at Scaling Dam Sailing Club. This one fills up fast, so book now to secure a spot!

Activities are only subject to change if there are safety reasons. Each morning the programme of activities planned for that day will be looked at and the weather conditions affecting that environment considered. Remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing! And we have all the appropriate clothing. If the team decide that conditions are unsuitable, an alternative activity will be provided.

Adventure Club

Adventure Club will keep your young people busy, active and away from screens during the school holidays. It’s a chance to make new friends, challenge themselves and develop a wide range of new skills – all while having lots of fun! We’ve planned an inspiring programme of specific activities on set days, so you’ll know exactly what your child will be enjoying during their time with us.

£50 per young person per day with a 10% discount when booking more than one day.

 

WHAT TO BRING?

Young people attending our Adventure Club should bring a packed lunch and snacks, bottle of water, change of clothes and shoes (including swimwear and a towel depending on the activity) plus any personal medication. In the summer months please pack a hat and sunscreen. A plastic bag for wet and muddy items can be handy too as things might get dirty!

Family Activity Days

Want to spend quality time together taking on a challenge in the great outdoors? This summer we have three exciting options to choose from. Join us on a canoe journey, climbing day or caving experience and make memories that will last a lifetime at our Bewerley Park Outdoor Education Centre in Pateley Bridge.

Canoe Journey ITINERARY

You’ll be welcomed on arrival, meet your instructor, get kitted out, and head to the river for a safety briefing before setting off—don’t forget a packed lunch for a break on the water. No prior experience is needed, as beginners will be gently introduced to the equipment in calm conditions while more experienced participants are also catered for. Throughout the day, you’ll build confidence, learn to control your canoe as a team, and enjoy the scenery and wildlife along the river.

CLIMBING DAY ITINERARY

We’ll get everyone kitted out with helmets, harnesses, and climbing shoes before heading to a stunning location like Brimham Rocks, where your instructor will guide you through the day. No experience is needed, as activities are tailored to all abilities, with support to build confidence, learn climbing techniques, and work as a team. You’ll enjoy a full day of climbing in the Yorkshire Dales, including a lunch break in the stunning scenery, and opportunities to try different activities like bouldering or weaselling.

CAVING EXPERIENCE ITINERARY

You’ll meet your instructor, get fully equipped, and head into the Yorkshire Dales for an underground adventure, with guidance and support throughout. No experience is needed, as the day is designed to build confidence at a comfortable pace while you explore caves, learn about geology, and discover hidden features. With time for a packed lunch above ground, the experience combines adventure, learning, and teamwork in a memorable setting.

WHAT TO BRING?

All specialist kit will be provided for our Family Activity Days, including waterproofs. All you need is a packed lunch and snacks, bottle of water, change of clothes and shoes plus any personal medication. In the summer months please pack a hat and sunscreen too. Once we return to the centre, you’ll enjoy a hot drink and a slice of cake — the perfect end to a brilliant day out.

Skills courses for young people

Want to build your young person’s confidence and help them develop new skills? This summer, choose from a range of hands-on two-day courses including climbing, paddle sports, sailing and mountain biking at our Bewerley Park Outdoor Education Centre in Pateley Bridge. With expert instruction and options for beginners through to those looking to progress, they’ll gain practical skills, knowledge, and unforgettable experiences in the great outdoors.

CLIMBING AND ROCK SKILLS ITINERARY

Arrive, meet your instructor, get kitted out, and head to a local crag for a safety briefing. Learn essential skills including harness use, rope work, belaying, abseiling, and movement on rock. Explore guidebooks, crag etiquette, and build confidence—no prior experience needed.

Paddle Sports ITINERARY

Spend two days developing paddle skills across a range of watercraft on lakes and rivers. Start with a multi-craft introduction, then progress based on conditions, potentially including rapids or small waves. Learn safety, environmental awareness, and techniques, with sessions tailored to your ability.

Sailing ITINERARY

Enjoy a two-day introduction to sailing, learning key skills to get out on the water with confidence. Cover launching, steering, turning, and boat control, alongside safety and rescue techniques. Build knowledge of equipment and the environment, with support throughout from instructors.

Mountain biking ITINERARY

Begin with introductions, bike setup, and skills coaching at the Bewerley MTB track, followed by a local trail ride. Develop techniques, confidence, and knowledge such as maintenance, planning, and safe riding. Day two includes tailored rides and coaching, covering trail skills, navigation, and rider development.

WHAT TO BRING?

All specialist equipment is provided for our skills courses (including climbing kit, paddlecraft and safety gear, sailing equipment, and mountain bikes/helmets), though you’re welcome to bring your own if suitable. Please bring a packed lunch, snacks, a bottle of water, a change of clothes and shoes, and any personal medication. For all activities, wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing (including layers and sturdy footwear), and in warmer months bring sunscreen and a hat. For mountain biking specifically, lightweight layers, gloves, and a small backpack are recommended.

RYA sailing Stage 1 and Stage 2

We can help young people get the skills and experience to sail the seven seas on our Royal Yachting Association (RYA) accredited two-day courses that include both practical and theoretical aspects.

Thursday 13 to Friday 14 August – RYA sailing Stage 2

If attendees have previously completed Stage 1, they will be able to move on to Stage 2.

HOW MUCH

Two-day course £110

ITINERARY

Young people will learn to sail and gain a RYA Youth Sailing qualification on this two day course for either Stage 1 or Stage 2.

Stage 1 includes launching and recovery, sailing across the wind, turning, steering and basic parts of the boat – the perfect beginner’s course.

Stage 2 will develop the skills needed to sail around a course tacking, gybing and controlling boat speed.

We deliver outdoor activities all year round. It’s what we do! Our highly qualified, professional and experienced instructors are passionate about delivering exciting programmes and bringing out the very best of real outdoor adventure. Each group will be looked after by one of our full-time, qualified, highly experienced, and enhanced DBS checked outdoor tutors.

Each group will be looked after by one of our full-time, qualified, highly experienced, and enhanced DBS checked outdoor tutors. Leading children and adults on outdoor adventures is what we do…all year!

SPECIALIST CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

All specialist kit for activities will be provided including waterproofs and wellies when necessary. Ideally attendees should bring their own wellies, but we have plenty on hand to lend.

FAQs

At Adventure Club will young people be with others the same age?

We’ll do our best to make sure that young people are in groups with others similar in age.

Will young people attending Adventure Club BE supervised at all times?

At our Adventure Club sessions tutors will be with them at all times except when it’s judged appropriate for remote supervision, for example on a treasure hunt.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Each morning the programme of activities planned for that day will be looked at and the weather conditions affecting that environment considered. Activities are only subject to change if there are safety reasons. Remember, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing! And we have all the appropriate clothing.

Can people come on specific days only?

You can book to come for one day or several – its entirely up to you.

Will people be able to take their mobile phone?

Yes, people are allowed to bring their mobiles phones, although we do not advise that mobile phones are taken out on activity as they can be easily damaged/dropped in water. Our outdoor tutors all carry mobile phones should they be needed in case of an emergency.

Are your activities inclusive?

We aim to be an activities provider where everyone is treated fairly and with respect. We want everyone to reach their potential, and we recognise that some young people require extra support to enable them to achieve this, be successful, and thrive. We recognise that some people have additional needs or physical disabilities that require support and assistance. We will assess the individual needs of each person prior to them attending and will make reasonable adjustments to ensure that people can access our services and are made to feel welcome.  We are always happy to discuss and see how we can accommodate participation.
