SUITABILITY

For candidates who have completed a Climbing Wall Instructor training, are confident in the syllabus, and meet the full prerequisites. A valid 8-hour first aid certificate is required.

 

Climbing Wall Instructor assessment

The Climbing Wall Instructor assessment is a one-day practical evaluation of your ability to instruct climbing and bouldering safely on artificial walls. This includes technical competence, risk awareness, group management, and instructional ability.

You must meet the following prerequisites before attending:

  • Attended Climbing Wall Instructor training (or have exemption)
  • Confident in the full syllabus
  • Logged at least 30 personal climbing sessions across 3 different walls
  • Led at least 40 routes indoors (minimum grade: French 4)
  • Assisted in 15 instructed sessions across at least two walls, including a large public wall
  • Logged 5 personal reflections on DLOG
  • Completed a minimum 8-hour (1-day) in-person first aid course with assessment

Assessment Outcomes

Pass – You’ve demonstrated all required competencies
